A story too disturbing to be true, too possible to be ignored, and it should frighten each of us. Nails is a powerful exploration of society’s willingness to sacrifice freedom through the eyes and actions of three deeply flawed people who are thrown together into a riveting, dark and twisted world in which each of them is used and discarded by those in authority.

Tau is a man who would slit his own mother’s throat if the opportunity arose. He is recruited to help change a future election, and, in the process, move Democracy closer and closer to autocracy.

Simon is a reporter who will do anything to make his father proud, even if it means pushing a false narrative.

Gedeon is an ex-special agent without a conscience. He becomes the hammer for a secret society bent on saving the world by destroying the last vestige of democracy and all that it entails.

Each of these individuals perceives they are the “hammers” of society, charged with pounding others into submission through murder, threats, and lies… until they find they’ve become nothing more than nails in a much larger secret game of life and death.

“Be forewarned, “Nails” is a gritty novel that echoes the beginning of fascism of Hitler’s Germany and Putin’s Russia, and it will have your stomach churning, but it’s well worth the ride, especially as a warning to today’s political environment.” —Rick Stepp-Bolling (Author of Patch Man)

My review:

Wow, where to start with this one. I have to admit, Nails grabbed me from the very first page and wouldn’t let go. Be prepared. None of the characters are what you would think of as good people. If you looked up narcissism in the dictionary, Simon, Tau and Gedeon would all three fit the bill. They care about nothing and no one but themselves. People are to be used to push their own agenda, and once you are all used up, well, your time is up.

If you follow politics at all, there comes a time when you start to question everything and everyone. Depending on which side you follow, the narrative you listen to, each side will claim to be on the side of right while the other is evil and out to destroy our country. The real truth can paint a much darker picture. Nails gives you an inside perspective into how the masses (or individuals) can be manipulated into doing what those in power want, even if it ultimately ends up hurting them, and I have to say it gave me chills to see just how easily it can be done.

As another author mentioned in the blurb, “this is a gritty novel that will have your stomach churning,” but it will also make you stop and think. This is a story I believe everyone should read. Definitely worth the five stars I’m giving it. I can’t wait to see what this author gives us next. M.D. Nuth is for sure going on my “to watch for” list!

M.D. NUTH, after growing up in Colorado, resides in Southern California, his adopted home of the past three decades.  Before turning to his passion for writing, M.D.’s professional career spanned for-profit and non-profit organizations that enabled him to work with a diverse set of people that included international business leaders as well as the poorest of the poor.  In both his personal and professional life, he remains grounded through family, faith, music, and writing.

Life experience gives M.D. a unique perspective and knack for storytelling, providing him insight to illustrate the human factors that affect all of us.   His writing transcends socio-economic status to speak to each of his readers on a personal level, unifying them through life events in which all humankind can relate.

Matt’s book, Nails, has now been published by Crimson Cloak Publishing.
